Statement on the arrest of sauspects in the murder of ANC Councillor Ben Malebatja

10 October 2013

The African National Congress in Limpopo expresses its satisfaction at the appearance of five suspects at the Seshego Magistrate`s court with regard to the murder of its councilor in Molemole Comrade Ben Malebatja. Comrade Malebatja was murdered early this year by unknown assailants in the Matlala area.

As the African National Congress, we need to reiterate condemnation and disgust at the manner in which our comrade was murdered. It is quite clear that dark forces are at work and their main objective is to attempt to intimidate and terrify our members in their execution of their revolutionary duties as cadres of our glorious movement. The ANC is a hundred years old liberation movement with by far the largest support base in South Africa. Those who think that they can defeat the ANC by harassing and murdering our members must know that they will never succeed.

As a disciplined organization, we are not going to cast aspersions on anyone but will wait for the full trial to take wherein the truth will come out as to the motive of those who brutally murdered comrade Malebatja.

The five suspects were remanded in custody and a bail hearing is scheduled for the 24 October 2013.
