Statement on losing the bi-elections to the DA

25 October 2013

On Wednesday, 23 October 2013, the ANC fought a good fight as the great liberation party in Makhado Municipality - Ward 12 during the bi-elections. It is the time to unite as the great people of Ward 12. Whatever our politics may be we are all first and foremost inhabitant of Ward 12. The things that unite us are more powerful than the things that divide us; we have managed our political differences peacefully and conducted the most vigorous campaigns peacefully and resolve our politics peacefully and with civility.

We concede defeat at this bi-election. We wish the DA well in coping with the stresses and strains of office that lie ahead. The ANC knows a little bit of what that is like. We know that the hearts of our members and supporters are heavy across the province today. We gave it all but it was not enough for us to win. We are proud that we will remain a viable fighting force for the future.

We would like to thank our contestant Comrade Johanna Kubayi and everyone for the courage and unswerving commitment to our cause, to our movement and to our nation. We are proud that this is an ANC led municipality and we will rise from this defeat in the next local government elections. It is time of rebuilding that which lies ahead; we must never lose sight of 2014 general elections. Itís a fact that the ANC remains the only progressive party that can make our world a better place than the one we inherited from our forebears.
