ANC Limpopo Congratulates Grade 12 Learners

7 January 2014

Today is once again that time of the year when learners and their families are jubilant because of the Grade 12 Results of 2013. The ANC-Limpopo joins the millions of South Africans in this jubilation and congratulates all successful Grade 12 learners. It is heartening to note that 19 years of dedication and hard work yielded positive results. In a sense the 71,8% provincial pass rate could be a signal that 2013 was on the whole a productive year of schooling. The province looks forward to even greater achievements at the end of 2014. To all successful matriculants, especially high achievers, ANC says well done!

The ANC attributes the success of the Grade 12 Class of 2013 to the shared vision and dedication of learners; their parents; school governing bodies; teachers; departmental officials and all stakeholders in education. The sacrifices most parents made for the education of their children has yielded desired results. The commitment of teachers and teacher unions to teaching and teacher development cannot go unnoticed either. It is such teacher commitment that contributed towards enhancing learner performance in various schools across the province. ANC therefore congratulates teacher unions, teachers, departmental officials and school principals for their oneness of purpose and hard work - Well done! ANC encourages all learners who did not make it to view their failure as an opportunity to do things differently in their next attempt. As for “under-performing schools” they need strong and visionary leadership; determination and both material and non-material support in order to improve.

However, the ANC is concerned with the dilapidated, mud and unsafe structures and classrooms in our province. The ANC led government is giving this state of affairs a serious attention,so that the right to learning, and learning under conducive and safe environment are realized. We further need to reduce repetition and dropout rate in our schools. Surely this percentage (71,8%) will be surpassed once we continue to work together to make Limpopo the province of learning. We are proud to note that Limpopo took 3rd position after KZN and Gauteng.

The ANC wishes successful Grade 12 learners the best in their future and hopes they won’t meet obstacles in terms of access to institutions of higher education. We hope that the Ministry and the department of higher Education will ensure all deserving matriculants gain access to institutions of higher learning and FET colleges. The ANC will continue with its `go back to school campaign` for the month of January,to ensure that the culture of learning is promoted and restored.
