ANC Limpopo concludes two day Lekgotla

The African National Congress ( ANC) in Limpopo held a two day Lekgotla from 22-23 January at the Ranch Hotel. The Lekgotla is an annual happening was attended by the NEC deployees, PEC, deployees in government, and other leaders. The Lekgotla sets a tone for the Government Lekgotla.

The Main aim of the legotla is job creation, which is an ANC objective in building a competitive fast growing and a developing economy that creates jobs.

The creation of decent work , sustainable livelihoods will also be central to ANC program in 2012.

In his opening address and political overview, the Provincial Chairperson, Cde Cassel Mathale reiterated several issues that talks to the state of the organization in the Province. He called on the leadership to build a strong organization that would ensure respect for individuals. He took the lekgotla through issues that were taking place globally and Sudan in particular. He also talked at length about the coming elections, in that there is no other option for the ANC, but to win them.

The NEC deployee in the Province, and Chief Whip in the National Parliament, Cde Mathole Motshekga emphasized on the need for the Province to utilize the present natural resources of the Province maximally. He said when the ANC adopted the New Growth Path, the main aim was to make sure that the poor are fully empowerd.

From the ANC National Economic Desk, Cde Enoch Gondongwana made an impressive presentation on the New Growth Path and its direct benefits to Limpopo in particular. He showed in detail how Limpopo can prepare itself to leverage the economic spin offs when the mega Medupi power station is finished. He emphasized that the global shortage of coal, means that only Limpopo will in the near future be the beacon of the nation.

The lekgotla discussed in part the Limpopo 2030-ANC Economic Strategy launched in 2009. In that Strategy, the following eleven sectors were identified and systematically examined as strategic pillars for Limpopo’s economic growth and development;

  • Rural development
  • Skills development
  • Health
  • Agriculture and biodiversity
  • Mining and mineral beneficiation
  • Tourism, sport, arts and culture and heritage
  • ICT and Innovation enabled Industries
  • Socio economic infrastructure
  • GTransport, Freight and Logistics
  • Coal and Petro chemical
  • Fighting crime and corruption.

Plenary sessions of lekgotla put programs and action plans on how all these can be implemented with set time.

The ANC wishes to call upon all ANC deployees in government to implement ANC electoral mandate as outlined in the 2009 Manifesto. In implementing the electoral mandate, we need to strengthen and build capacity on departments to discharge their mandates. The ANC will take keen interest on monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of policy by cadres deployed in government.
