Changes to the Limpopo Executive Council

25 January 2011

The African National Congress in Limpopo welcomes the announcement of the Premier, Cde Cassel Mathale on the rearrangement of the Executive Council. It is our firm belief that this reshuffle will surely assist both the ANC and the ANC government in fast tracking delivery on the five key priority areas we identified as part of our election manifesto for the current administration. We are also convinced that this reshuffle would also add impetus to implementation of resolutions taken by the ANC in its most recent lekgotla held on 22 and 23 January.

As we congratulate Cdes Magadzi and Phadagi for their new roles as MECs for Health and Social Development and Safety, Security and Liaison respectively on their new assignments as well as Cdes Thabitha Mohlala and David Masondo on their appointments as MECs for Public Works and Provincial Treasury respectively, we wish to take this opportunity to reinforce the statement by the National Executive Committee of the ANC on January 08 to the effect that we must make 2011 a year of job creation. We also wish to take this opportunity to thank Cdes Merriam Segabutla and Saad Cachalia them for having made themselves available when the last assignment was given and we would thus be interacting with them on the new responsibilities that the movement would be assigning to them.

The ANC in Limpopo has noted with regret speculative reports In the media, including the report that appeared in twitter about the state of health of the first democratically elected president of our country. Given the position that Madiba occupies in the hearts and minds of South Africans and people of the world, it is our considered view that these reports are not only an aberration on the cultures and traditions of the African people, but they are also insensitive to Madiba and his family.

Whereas we respect the right to media freedom as enshrined in our constitution, it is our firm belief that the media has an obligation not to force the country into an unnecessary state of anxiety by reporting factually and sensitively on this and other malters. The ANC in Limpopo wish to take this opportunity to wish Madiba a speedy recovery.
