ANC Limpopo discussion on National Leadership

ANC Limpopo discussion on National Leadership

15 August 2012

The ANC Limpopo PEC concluded a special meeting on Monday, 13 August 2012 initially convened to discuss the kind of national leadership needed in light of its forthcoming 53rd national elective conference to be held in Manguang during December 2012.

Members of the PEC reaffirmed the centrality of branches to evaluate and elect leadership. It also adopted a comprehensive discussion document to aid in facilitating discussions within the ANC structures on the type of ANC leadership to lead the ANC in the next five years.

Some of the characteristics identified as necessary qualities for ANC national leadership to be elected at the conference:

  • ANC leadership must embody values of the ideal society we seek to create; that is, the values of non-sexism, non-racialism, unity and egalitarianism
  • ANC leadership must be beyond reproach in their conduct and should act as role models to both ANC and non-ANC members
  • Bold leadership that will lead fundamental economic transformation, including changing certain Constitutional clauses proving to be impediments towards strategic nationalization.
  • ANC leadership which is not captured by narrow business interests for personal economic gain; and capable of appointing competent and professional, yet revolutionary state bureaucrats.
  • The ANC needs a leadership that accommodates revolutionary dissent and differing political viewpoints, including from its Leagues
  • Leadership that is consistent in enforcing discipline within the organisation
  • Leadership that will not abuse state institutions for narrow factionalist goals
  • Collectively the leadership must also be composed of leaders who can bring new theoretical and strategic insights to sharpen our country’s transformation agenda
  • Leadership that will consistently fight imperialism particularly here in South Africa, and in the African continent as a whole.

Once the nominations process for leadership starts, our branches will announce on the specific names of people who should constitutes the ANC leadership.
